Job summary

Broadlawns Medical Center is seeking a Certified Surgical Technician to assist in surgical cases, maintain sterile fields, and support the operating room team. The role supports diverse patient ages under staff nurse supervision and requires teamwork and precise instrument handling.

The position is PRN for weekends with 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. shifts. A CST credential and BLS are required, with a commitment to safety and high-quality patient care at our Level 3 hospital facility in Des Moines.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• CST certification or equivalent education/experience; Basic Life Support certification may be required.
• Must be able to work as part of a team and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

• Assist with basic nursing care and preparation of surgical patients under supervision of staff nurse.
• Prepare and maintain sterile field for operative procedures; pass instruments and supplies as needed; ensure correct counts and team readiness.

Assists in identifying patient needs based on age specific data. Selects appropriate instruments and supplies and sets up tables as required for specific operations. Prepares and maintains the sterile field for all surgical procedures. Prepares and passes instruments, sponges, and supplies needed in the operative procedure and maintains a correct count. Functions as a member of the sterile team.
