Job summary

Cleveland-Cliffs Ferrous Processing & Trade in Detroit, MI is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator to process scrap metals using various machines and to uphold safety standards on-site. You will operate wheeled and crawler crawlers, load and unload materials, and sort metals for quality control.

The role requires daily physical work, the ability to read and write, and strong teamwork with drivers and other staff. Pre-employment background and drug screening are required.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High School Diploma or GED (or 1+ year heav y equipment operator experience).
• Ability to read, write and perform basic math.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to perform physical outdoor work daily.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment and maintain safety standards on site.
• Load/unload materials using magnets, grapples, and related gear.
• Sort metals to separate high-grade materials and remove non-conforming items.
• Perform daily equipment inspections and assist mechanics as needed.
• Interact with drivers/customers and assist them as required.
