Job summary

Qualifications

• Doctorate degree or equivalent research experience in cell biology, immunology, or related field.
• Strong hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture and cell-based assays.
• Experience with fluorescence microscopy and quantitative image analysis.
• Immunofluorescence staining, live-cell imaging, or related sample-prep techniques.
• Ability to troubleshoot cell-based assays and experimental workflows.
• Familiarity with high-content imaging platforms (e.g., Opera Phenix) and automation is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Maintain mammalian cell cultures and prepare cells for imaging experiments.
• Develop and optimize image-based cellular assays, including co-culture systems.
• Perform fluorescence microscopy and automated imaging experiments.
• Support imaging studies across R&D collaborations.
• Develop quantitative image analysis workflows using Fiji/ImageJ, Imaris, and high-content software.
• Analyze and document experimental results for communication to teams.
• Operate and maintain automated high-content imaging instrumentation.

Job Description

Aptask Global Workforce (AGW) is seeking a Scientist for an Onsite position with a Major Biotechnology Company located in South San Francisco, CA. This is a 12+ month contract opportunity.

We are seeking a motivated and collaborative contract scientist to join an R&D imaging and image analysis team supporting research programs across multiple therapeutic and functional areas. The successful candidate will be a strong experimentalist with hands-on experience in mammalian cell culture, cellular assay development, and sample preparation. This role will contribute to both core imaging activities and collaborative research projects, including quantitative imaging relevant to the development and characterization of T-cell engagers.

Responsibilities:

• Maintain mammalian cell cultures and prepare cells and samples for imaging experiments
• Develop, optimize, and execute image-based cellular assays, including co-culture and cell-cell interaction assays
• Perform fluorescence microscopy and automated imaging experiments
• Support imaging studies conducted in collaboration with scientists across R&D
• Develop and apply quantitative image analysis workflows using tools such as Fiji/ImageJ, Imaris, and high-content analysis software
• Analyze, interpret, document, and communicate experimental results
• Assist with operation and routine maintenance of automated high-content imaging instrumentation
• Troubleshoot imaging, assay, and sample-preparation issues

Requirements:

• Doctorate degree OR Master's degree and 2 years of experience OR Bachelor's degree and 4 years of experience in cell biology, immunology, bioengineering, biochemistry, biomedical sciences, or a related discipline
• Strong hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture and cell-based assays
• Experience with fluorescence microscopy and quantitative image analysis
• Experience with immunofluorescence staining, live-cell imaging, or other microscopy sample-preparation techniques
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot cell-based assays

Desired skills:

• Experience with primary cells, immune cells, co-culture assays, or cell-cell interaction assays
• Experience with high-content imaging platforms such as the Opera Phenix
• Experience with automated laboratory workflows or robotic plate handling
• Familiarity with Fiji/ImageJ, Imaris, CellProfiler, Harmony, or related image analysis tools
• Programming experience in Python, R, or MATLAB

Pay range: up to $42.16per hour
