Job summary

Pace® Analytical Services is seeking a Scientist 1 to join our Pittsburgh laboratory. This full-time, on-site role runs Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

In this position you will analyze water and viable bacterial samples, operate instruments like MALDI-ToF, and help ensure accurate environmental data supporting community health and safety. The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's degree in a science field and has 3–6 months of on-the-job training for bacterial culture setup/analysis,

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or other science related degrees — or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Candidate will provide documented 3 to 6 months on-the-job training for the set up and/or analysis of bacterial cultures.
• Ability to work effectively in a laboratory environment, including standing for extended periods, working around strong odors, and wearing required PPE (lab coat, safety glasses, gloves—all provided by Pace®).
• Experience in basic analysis of bacterial cultures in an environmental or clinical laboratory and knowledge of Legionella species or Fungal analysis is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Analyze water and viable bacterial samples using established microbiological methods
• Work with instruments such as MALDI-ToF and more
• Review and interpret the results from the sample analysis
• Accurately document observations and results to maintain high-quality, organized laboratory records
• Clean, maintain, and calibrate laboratory instruments and equipment

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or other science related degrees — or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
