An affiliate of Colossal is seeking a Scientist to provide their talent, knowledge, and passion for ambitious synthetic biology projects involving non-model organisms. The role requires working on a diverse set of workflows that involve precise genome manipulation. The candidate will work with a talented group of engineers and biologists committed to optimizing and developing novel technologies for large-scale editing of genomes.

This position will be based out of Dallas, TX. Relocation assistance is available.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Build genome-editing workflows
  • Design, innovate and iterate DNA assembly, integration, screening and functional assays
  • Work on project milestones
  • Attend lab meetings, prepare reports and presentations on the progress of projects
  • Great organizational skills and excellent laboratory record maintenance

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Expertise with a variety of genome editing tools (CRISPR and more)
  • Strong experience with mammalian cell culture systems
  • Experience in molecular biology (PCR, nucleic and protein extraction, gel electrophoresis) and cloning techniques (restriction enzyme-based cloning, Gibson assembly, yeast assembly)
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, as well as creative problem-solving skills
  • Enjoys the fast-paced startup environment and teamwork
  • Ability to function well in a growth-oriented, nimble environment.

Preferred Experience:

  • Postdoctoral/industry work in gene editing, cell selection and cell screening
  • Experience with large scale DNA assemblies
  • Experience with NGS analysis workflows
  • Peer-reviewed work on genome engineering in mammalian cell systems

Education and Experience:

  • PhD in synthetic biology, biological sciences, bioengineering, molecular biology, genetics or related field.
  • 3+ years hands-on expertise designing and cloning DNA constructs
