Job summary

Candidates should hold a PhD in molecular biology or related field, with 2–5 years of research experience. Training includes notebooks, quality systems, and potential publications or patents.

Qualifications

Description of Responsibilities
Position Summary

A Molecular R&D Scientist I at BioFire Defense is responsible for initiating, directing and executing scientific research and/or development strategies for BioFire Defense. A Scientist investigates the feasibility of applying a variety of scientific principles and concepts to potential products, processes, and innovations. Scientists are responsible for remaining familiar with molecular biology concepts, practices, and procedures including PCR, RT-PCR, real-time PCR, and the use of fluorescence-based nucleic acid detection techniques. A Scientist I manages a team of Research Associates who assist in executing research and development efforts under the direction of a Scientist.

Primary Duties
  • Plans and executes laboratory research supporting the development of new products and supporting the maintenance and troubleshooting of existing products.
  • Develops processes and procedures to aid in the development and maintenance of product lines.
  • Maintains broad knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories.
  • Uses professional concepts to contribute to the development of company concepts and principles and to achieve objectives in creative and effective ways.
  • Requires interaction with various company departments.
  • Demonstrates potential for technical proficiency, scientific creativity, collaboration with others, and independent thought.
  • Ensures that laboratory notebooks for assigned projects/experiments are maintained in accordance with BioFire Defense Employment Handbook.
  • Performs all work in compliance with company policy and within the guidelines of BioFire Defense Quality System.
  • May contribute to literature and conferences.
  • May advise top management on corporate research and development.
  • May participate in development of patent applications.

Qualifications
Training and Education

Minimum education, certification, and/or training requirements for this position (i.e., high school diploma, college degree, and/or certification.)

A PhD in a scientific discipline is required for this position.
