Job summary

SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory is seeking a software engineer to design, implement, and operate data-intensive systems for large-scale scientific projects. You will build APIs, containerized services, and data workflows used by global scientific collaborations, with a focus on reliable data management and secure access.

You will work across platforms, contribute to Kubernetes deployments, and partner with the AUS team to advance scientific computing at SLAC.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in physics, computer science, or a related field; 5+ years in software development, systems administration, or HPC or equivalent
• Proficiency in Python; C/C++ or JavaScript a plus
• Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, code review, and agile methodologies
• Familiarity with data-driven and data-intensive workflows
• Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL and data pipelines
• Experience deploying and operating applications on Kubernetes at scale
• Understanding of distributed compute and storage systems and HPC concepts
• Identity and Access Management concepts (OIDC, SAML2, JWT, LDAP) a plus

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain applications and APIs for S3DF science programs
• Containerize apps and deploy on Kubernetes clusters following cloud-native best practices
• Collaborate on data management tools and workflows for scientific data
• Integrate apps with IAM frameworks to secure data access
• Troubleshoot and tune the full portfolio of services used by scientists
• Develop runbooks and user-facing guides
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code tooling
