Job summary

SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory is seeking a software engineer to build tools and workflows for science projects such as the Vera C. Rubin Observatory US Data Facility.

You will design applications, containerize services, and deploy on Kubernetes clusters, contributing to secure data access and scalable scientific computing. The role emphasizes data-intensive workflows, metadata integrity, and collaboration with global scientific programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in physics, computer science, or a related field with 5+ years of relevant software or HPC experience.
• Proficiency in Python; strong knowledge of data-intensive workflows and Kubernetes deployments.
• Experience with PostgreSQL and modern data-management practices.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and support applications and APIs for science programs using Kubernetes and cloud-native patterns.
• Develop data-serving interfaces and pipelines for petabyte-scale datasets.
• Integrate with IAM frameworks (OIDC, SAML2, JWT, LDAP) for secure data access.
• Contribute to data stewardship, metadata integrity, and data lifecycle tooling.
