BASIS Independent Brooklyn Upper School in Brooklyn, NY is seeking a Science Teaching Fellow to support lead teachers across a PreK–12 program. You will help with classroom management, tutoring, and lab activities while learning BASIS teaching methods.

You will participate in staff meetings, assist with events, and contribute to a positive, achievement‑oriented school culture. This entry‑level role offers growth into lead teaching positions within our network.

Qualifications

  • Essential teaching qualifications include strong communication, judgment, organization, and attention to detail.
  • Bachelor's Degree required; willingness to stay current with subject knowledge and BASIS methods.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting teachers with classroom management
  • Student academic support and tutoring
  • Assisting classroom teachers with events, labs, and testing
  • Working with teachers in evaluating student progress and gains
  • Proctoring assessments
  • Monitoring and managing non-scheduled time (Early Bird/Late Bird, Lunch Monitor)
  • Monitoring and managing study groups
  • Coordinating homework/assignments for absent students
  • Assisting Directors of Student Affairs/Deans with behavior and discipline
  • Assisting Directors of Academic Programs with key program execution

The Teaching Fellow will float between classes andassistthe lead teacher to create an environment where learning is a joyful and rewarding experience thatmaintainsthe integrity of each child’s imagination and natural curiosity. The environment fostersan exposureto a thematic, hands-on, comprehensive, and content-rich curriculum.Ultimately, thegoal of the program is to foster a sense of wonder while engaging in the world that surrounds us, equipping students with a foundation for future success.

The Teaching Fellow's role is toassistthe lead teacher while learning the BASIS IndependentSchoolsmodelwith opportunities for growth and a successful transition into Lead Teacher roles.Teaching Fellows have the opportunity to learn all aspects of the school preparing them for the classroom or administration in the future.Teaching Fellows help in the efforts to build andmaintaina strong, positive achievement-oriented school culture. This position is a visible presence in all areas of the school and canassistwith any issues relating to the well-being of the students during their time at the school.

The Teaching Fellows willbe requiredto attend all staff meetings and any trainingrequired ofTeachers.

Primary Job Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Assistingteachers with classroom management

Essential Teacher Qualifications
  • Strong belief in and adherence to the BASIS Independent Schools model
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to exercise excellent judgment and decision making
  • Ability to work with diverse constituents whilemaintaininghigh professional standards
  • Exemplary organizational skills; ability toestablishand manage multiple priorities; ability to work under pressure
  • Outstanding attention to detail and accuracy
Additional Qualifications
  • Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree isrequired(early education preferred).Candidates mustpossessthe willingness to keep current in both subject matter knowledge and BASIS Independent Schools teaching methodologies.
  • Preferred Qualifications: A successful applicant will demonstrate strong communication skills and be open to new ideas in teaching methods.
