Job summary

Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS) is seeking a TEACHER: SCIENCE to provide instruction by developing and presenting instructional plans and materials, fostering a conducive learning environment, and supervising students across various settings.

The role requires bilingual/biliterate ability if assigned to bilingual programs, and familiarity with virtual learning platforms. Training and collaboration with parents and staff are expected.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of school organization, goals and objectives, curriculum, teaching techniques; current trends, research and materials of instruction in field of specialization.
• Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education.
• Ability to infuse technology into curriculum.
• Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office and school board staff, students, parents and the community.
• Excellent organizational and human relation skills.
• Ability to effectively communicate with diverse communities and develop outreach strategies to encourage parental involvement in student learning.
• Demonstrated ability to work with virtual learning technology, remote instruction platforms, and Learning Management Systems.

Responsibilities

• Establishes clear goals and objectives related to the school improvement plan. Plans and prepares lessons, assignments, and instructional materials.
• Establishes learning objectives consistent with appraisal of student needs, curriculum framework, and knowledge of human growth and development.
• Prepares, administers and corrects evaluations and assessments, and records results. Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, board policy and administrative regulation.
• Selects and uses appropriate instructional strategies including but not limited to, lectures, group discussions, demonstrations, modeling and multi-media teaching aids to present subject matter to students.
• Evaluates student progress using appropriate assessment techniques. Counsels students when academic and adjustment problems arise.
• Maintains order and discipline in the classroom conducive to effective learning; takes all necessary safety precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
• Creates a classroom environment that provides for student involvement in the learning process and enables each student to achieve learning objectives.
• Confers with parents and students regarding progress/problems of assigned students; arranges and participates in teacher-parent or teacher-student conferences as necessary.
• Attends and actively participates in staff/faculty meetings and provides input regarding the planning of instructional goals, objectives and methods. May serve on special committees.
• Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for instructional assistants, teacher assistants, and volunteers.
• Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.
