Job summary

Boston University’s External Affairs division seeks a Research Writer to find, report, write, and edit stories that promote BU research and researchers. The role requires strong reportorial and storytelling skills and the ability to adapt content for web, print, and social media.

You will read research papers, translate them into clear language for diverse audiences, and collaborate with editors and cross-university teams to bring stories to life across BU Today, The Brink, and Bostonia.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required plus 3–5 years writing research and science news.
• Ability to read scientific papers and translate into lay terms for broad audiences.
• Strong writing, reporting and storytelling skills for diverse formats.

Responsibilities

• Report, write, and edit research stories about BU researchers and awards.
• Read research papers and translate complex ideas for media and public.
• Work with Editor to decide reporting and promotion approach.
• Collaborate with photo, production, and video teams to strengthen storytelling.
• Shape and promote stories across social platforms and BU channels.
