Job summary

The State University of New York at Buffalo invites applications for the GLRC STREAM Communications Manager to translate RENEW/GLRC research into accessible content for policymakers, stakeholders, and the public.

The role includes producing a bi-annual newsletter, posting site content, reporting to DEC, and coordinating with NYS and other partners while supporting education outreach and grant solicitations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, physical/natural science, scientific and technical writing ( STW ), technical communication, journalism, English, or other relevant degree.
• 2-3 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Educational background and/or work experience with freshwater ecosystems, challenges, and opportunities.
• Demonstrated ability to translate complex scientific and technical research papers and concepts into clear, engaging content for diverse audiences across multiple platforms.
• A strong portfolio of technical writing.
• Academic or professional experience conducting interviews.
• Familiarity with style guides (e.g., APA, ACS) and ability to apply editorial standards consistently.

Responsibilities

• Translate GLRC scientists’ research findings into understandable content for a general audience across multiple formats (white papers, peer-reviewed comments, explainers).
• Write and disseminate a bi-annual newsletter.
• Compose and post content to the GLRC STREAM website.
• Prepare reports for DEC review of GLRC STREAM activities.
• Liaise with DEC and NYS/federal/international entities and policymakers and scientists within the consortium.
• Assist the GLRC Program Manager with drafting solicitations for Small Grants.
• Support educators by translating research for K-12 curricula.
