Job summary

Temple Health – Temple University Health System in Philadelphia seeks a Laboratory Animal Technician to ensure humane care and treatment of research animals in a day shift, full-time role.

You will perform daily checks, document sick animals, administer treatments as ordered, and notify investigators. You will screen rodent colonies for murine pathogens and collect tissue samples during necropsies while providing technical support to research labs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences preferred.
• 1 year of experience in biological sciences required.
• General experience with FileMaker Pro preferred.

Shift: Day Shift

This position ensures the humane care and treatment of laboratory animals. The Technician is responsible for daily checks and treatment of animals marked as sick by staff which includes maintaining records of sick animals, treatments ordered by the attending veterinarian, notifications of principal investigators and their staff and monitoring animal room conditions as related to animal health and well-being. The technician is responsible for screening of rodent colonies for murine pathogens which includes collections and processing of samples for microbiology, serology, parasitology and Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). The technician will collect tissue samples during necropsies to ascertain cause of disease. The individual will provide technical assistance to research laboratories upon request.
