Job summary

State of South Carolina seeks an Employment Assistant Manager to support SCHP statewide hiring operations. The role collaborates with the Employment Manager to plan, coordinate, and administer all applicant processes, including screenings and scheduling.

You will guide applicants, ensure policy compliance, and manage communications from application to employment. The position requires travel across the state and may involve sworn duties during emergencies.

Qualifications

• State Minimum Requirements: a high school diploma and patrol/investigative experience with a public law enforcement agency.
• Agency Minimum Requirements: five (5) years of Certified Law Enforcement Service Time and six (6) months as SCHP Lance Corporal or current rank of SCHP Master Trooper by closing date.
• Promotional exam/Interview panels within two years of closing date.
• Residency requirements within four months of promotion; respond within 60 minutes to Richland County area.
• Must maintain SC Class I Law Enforcement Officer certification.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning, coordination, and administration of all hiring and employment functions for SCHP applicants.
• Maintain ongoing communication with applicants and manage all phases of employment processing for rehire and certified applicants.
• Oversee applicant testing, background investigations, medical evaluations, and drug screenings.
• Assist with scheduling polygraph examinations and employment-related activities.
• Provide guidance on qualifications, requirements, and procedures throughout the hiring process.
• Travel statewide to support employment operations and may perform law enforcement duties when required.
