Salary Range: $22.00 To $25.00 Hourly

Lake Forest Academy seeks a part-time driver to transport students to the train station on school day afternoons. The driver will be expected to drive either a 14-seater white bus or school minivan, depending on the volume of passengers. Work hours include Monday through Friday, 2:30pm-6:30pm, while school is in session.

The driver interacts daily with children and serves as their trusted transportation to and from school. As such, the driver must be free of any traffic or legal violations and should have an authoritative, yet calming demeanor and a strong understanding of traffic laws.

Responsibilities
  • Safely transport passengers to and from school
  • Obey all traffic laws
  • Maintain a clean and mechanically sound bus at all times
  • Ensure the safety of all passengers
  • Assist passengers with getting on and off the bus as needed
  • Perform inspections of the bus before and after each route
  • Report any mechanical issues to supervisor and mechanic
Requirements

Must meet eligibility requirements in order to apply for an IL School Bus Permit (not required prior to hire):

  • 21+ years old
  • Clear driving record
  • Pass a skills test provided by the IL DOT
  • Experience working with children or in a customer service role
  • Clear understanding of bus safety and traffic laws
  • Ability to present self in a highly professional manner to others and understands that honesty and ethics are essential.
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude.
  • Ability to communicate with students, co-workers and other departments with professionalism and respect.
  • Ability to maintain a professional relationship with all coworkers, vendor representatives, supervisors, managers, customers and client representatives.
  • Ability to use all relevant electronic and communication devices.
  • Adapts procedures, processes, tools equipment and techniques to accomplish the requirements of the position.
  • Ability to effectively communicate policies, and/or procedures in a manner easily understood by fellow employees.
  • Knowledge of and proficiency in all OSHA and local requirements related to all assigned work.
Physical Requirements

Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus, with or without corrective lenses.

Compensation

This is a part-time hourly position while school is in session (roughly 40 weeks per year). The pay range is between $22-$25/hour, depending on the experience of the applicant.
