Qualifications

• Illinois Professional Educator License with School Social Worker Endorsement.
• Knowledge of the school social work profession including laws, ethics, professional standards, child development, diversity and family systems.
• Ability to conduct direct and indirect intervention; caseload management, counseling and interviewing skills.
• Excellent communication and time management skills.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, families and staff.

Responsibilities

• Identify factors affecting a student’s school functioning (home, school, community).
• Serve as liaison between families and the school to promote collaboration.
• Complete social assessments to assist in determining special education services.
• Implement therapeutic strategies to improve behavioral and social interactions.
• Provide individual and group counseling to students and families.
• Provide parent/guardian training on child development and communication with teachers/parents/students.
• Collaborate with school staff to promote student learning.
• Participate in IEP, MTSS and other school-based teams to develop interventions.
• Provide crisis intervention services.
• Provide social work case management for students and families.
• Provide staff consultation on behavioral-social-environmental issues affecting learning.
• Conduct staff development on social-emotional-environmental factors.
• Conduct social skills groups and classroom presentations.
• Maintain clinical records and report data per program standards.
• Complete risk assessments and functional behavior assessments.
• Conduct classroom observations as needed.
• Liaise with community agencies to foster school-family-community communication.
• Locate and mobilize community resources to support education.
• Participate in professional development activities.
• Support District policies and regulations and ethical standards.
