Responsibilities

  • Attends to crisis situations and coordinates response.
  • Maintains confidentiality of students and staff.
  • Completes social developmental studies for case evaluations and file reviews.
  • Serves as liaison for special education decision-making process: screening, assessment, eligibility, and placement.
  • Leads the Student Based Assistance Team.
  • Evaluates eligibility for special education placement and school social work services.
  • Participates in 3- to 5-year-old screenings.
  • Delivers direct and/or consultative social work services per IEP.
  • Communicates with parents during school hours; advocates for students.
  • Monitors behavioral interventions for both general and special education students.
  • Assists teachers with behavior management; supports classroom planning.
  • Helps the team understand student behavior across in-school and out-of-school environments.
  • Assists with mental health, behavioral, and academic concerns; provides individual and group counseling.

OBJECTIVES

Under the supervision of the building principal and the Director of Student Services, the Social Worker will help both special and general education students resolve personal, emotional and social problems that interfere with their adjustment to school and their capacity to enjoy the fullest benefits of the education offered them.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Attends to crisis situations (e.g. child abuse, acute, chronic, and severe behavior problems, substance abuse, suicide, death, attendance, runaway, etc.).
  • Maintains and respects confidentiality of students and staff.
  • Completes the social developmental study for a case study evaluation (i.e. child interview, family interview, adaptive behavior assessment, classroom teach consultation and observation, review of permanent and temporary file, functional assessment, behavior intervention plan.
  • Serves as director's liaison regarding the rules and regulations governing the special education decision-making process: screening, assessment, eligibility, and placement options.
  • Serves as leader of the Student Based Assistance Team
  • Evaluates and participates in determining student eligibility for special education placement and school social work services.
  • Participates in 3-5-year-old screenings.
  • Delivers direct and or consultative social work services as indicated on the IEP.
  • Works with and communicates regularly with parents as needed during school hours.
  • Serves as an advocate for students.
  • Monitors and provides for behavioral interventions of regular and special education students.
  • Assisting teachers with behavior management.
  • Assists the team to understand the student, his/her in school and out-of-school behavior, and how the many environments influences the student for purposes of educational planning.
  • Assist with mental health concerns, behavioral concerns, positive behavioral support, academic, and classroom support, consultation with teachers, parents, and administrators as well as provide individual and group counseling/therapy.
