Amergis is seeking a School Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) in Winchester, VA. This contract-full-time role involves facilitating communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and classroom participants, using ASL to interpret spoken language.

The position requires ASL proficiency and relevant interpreter credentials, with compliance to professional standards and health requirements as per state and client regulations. 18+ years old is required; CPR and health clearances may be needed.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in American Sign Language.
• Associates degree or Bachelors degree in interpreting, deaf studies or related field; preferred.
• State Board of Education Initial Sign Language Interpreter Certificate (as applicable).
• Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) certificate (as applicable per state regulation or client requirement).
• Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) certification (as applicable per state regulation or client requirement).
• Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice.
• Current CPR if applicable.
• TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable.
• Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation).
• Must meet all federal, state and local requirements.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.

The Educational Sign Language Interpreter is a trainedprofessional who facilities communication between deaf or hard-of-hearingstudents and others within an educational setting. Often, American SignLanguage (ASL) is used to interpret spoken language into sign language and viceversa, which ensures students have accommodations to classroom instruction,activities and learning discussions.

Minimum Requirements:

• Proficiency in American Sign Language

• Associates degree or Bachelors degree in interpreting, deafstudies or related field, preferred

• State Board of Education Initial Sign Language InterpreterCertificate (as applicable)
