Job summary

Birch Agency is seeking a dedicated Sign Language Interpreter to support students in a school-based setting in Boydton, Virginia. You will provide American Sign Language interpretation in classroom instruction and school activities, collaborating with teachers, staff, and families to ensure equal access to education for deaf or hard-of-hearing students.

The role emphasizes professionalism, confidentiality, and a commitment to inclusive learning environments, with weekly pay starting at $35/hour

Qualifications

• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) required.
• Educational interpreting experience preferred.
• RID, EIPA, or state credentials preferred if applicable.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide ASL interpretation for students in classroom instruction, school activities, meetings, and related educational settings.
• Facilitate effective communication between students, teachers, staff, peers, and families as appropriate.
• Support student access to academic content and classroom participation.
• Interpret in a variety of educational settings including individual, small group, and classroom environments.
• Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and administrators to support student success.
• Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in accordance with educational and ethical standards.
• Assist with promoting an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
• Maintain accurate service documentation as required by the district.
