Responsibilities

• Assist in maintaining order using crisis intervention techniques.
• Assist in investigations and cooperate with law enforcement when necessary.
• Report and document incidents as directed by school principals and security personnel.
• Coordinate safety activities on and around the school building and grounds.
• Provide first aid as needed.
• Intervene in altercations among students, staff, or the public to maintain safety and security.
• Participate in emergencies such as fire, evacuation, lockdown, and tornado drills.
• Testify at hearings, as required.
• Guide students regarding available support services.
• Maintain contact records, observation documentation, and a daily log of activities.
• Supervise school-sponsored bus trips and athletic events as needed.
• Control and identify loiterers, trespassers, and other unauthorized individuals.
• Prepare reports on school incidents as directed.
• Enforce the MMSD Conduct and Discipline Code and other school regulations.
• Coordinate efforts with Madison Police Department officers, educational resource officers, and detective liaison personnel for hallway supervision.
• Compile and summarize monthly and year‑to‑date reports.
• Patrol parking lots, school grounds, hallways, stairwells, doorways, rooms, storage areas, and off‑site locations as directed.
• Become knowledgeable about security equipment and assist principals and security coordinators with its use.
• Perform additional duties related to maintaining a safe school environment.
