Job summary

Virginia Beach City Public Schools seeks a dedicated Security Assistant to protect students, staff and property under the Office of Safe Schools. Responsibilities include surveillance, patrolling, visitor screening and coordinating with administration to deter unauthorized access.

The role requires managing security technologies, responding to emergencies, and supporting after-school events with a flexible schedule.

Qualifications

• Requires High School Diploma or GED.
• Preferred experience working with children; prior security or law enforcement background.
• Must possess valid driver’s license and meet Virginia School Security Officer certification requirements.

Responsibilities

• Conduct surveillance of school buildings, grounds and activities.
• Patrol hallways, stairwells, restrooms and parking areas to secure buildings.
• Greet, screen, and sign-in visitors at the main entrance when assigned.
• Deter unauthorized entry and escort unauthorized persons from school premises.
• Assist with security for after-hours events and activities.
• Monitor CCTV cameras and emergency radio; report non-working equipment.
