Job summary

Charlottesville City Schools – Charlottesville High School is hiring a Care & Safety Assistant to support safety initiatives and foster a positive school culture. The role involves monitoring premises, assisting with incidents, and guiding visitors while building trusting relationships with students.

Requirements include a high school diploma, some experience with adolescents, and first aid/CPR credentials. This full-time, 185-day position is paid hourly and reports to the Principal.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma (or equivalent). Minimum six months of related experience working with adolescents in an education or community environment.
• Able to respond to difficult situations and take appropriate action in stressful or emergency situations per policies.
• Familiarity with secondary school operations and adolescent development. Community ties in Charlottesville desired.
• Current First Aid, CPR, and other relevant certifications (e.g. UMAB, CPI) are assets.

Responsibilities

• Regularly monitor hallways, common areas, and exterior doors to address unauthorized visitors and unsafe behavior.
• Assist administration, staff, and students in upholding the school’s code of conduct and CCS safety policies.
• Provide assistance/direction to visitors and support safety matters as needed.
• Build positive relationships with students and serve as liaison between students and administration.
• Identify potential conflicts and intervene to de-escalate; support conflict resolution.
• Support wellness initiatives and promote a positive school culture.
