Job summary

The School Resource Officer (SRO) is a full-time officer of the Ellensburg Police Department, specially selected and assigned to work in all six schools within the Ellensburg School District. Instead of working on a regular rotating patrol squad, the SRO works five days a week to serve the Ellensburg High School, Morgan Middle School, and all four of our Elementary Schools.

Qualifications

• An officer must typically have three years of experience.
• Must be able to work independently from daily direct supervision.
• Requires recommendation from Sergeant and successful interview.

Responsibilities

• Conduct threat assessments and address immediate safety concerns.
• Build prevention strategies to ensure a safe learning environment.
• Engage with students to build relationships and provide support.
• Guide students to available resources and follow-up care.
• Provide monthly reports on school-related activity and engagement.
