Job summary

Nutley Public Schools is seeking a Safe Schools Resource Officer to serve as a trusted safety educator and liaison for our district. The role emphasizes protecting students and staff, preventing crime, and maintaining a safe learning environment while working within school policies and district procedures.

The officer must be a retired New Jersey law enforcement officer with valid certifications, pass a physical, and obtain fingerprint-based background clearance.

Qualifications

• Must be a retired law enforcement officer with NJ certifications.
• Must pass a pre-employment physical examination.
• Concealed handgun permit required in NJ for wearing on school properties.
• Experience working with youth and adults in school safety preferred.
• Familiarity with Nutley community and schools is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide safety oversight and security for school facilities and events.
• Establish positive working relationships with administrators, staff, and students.
• Patrol buildings and perimeters to deter unauthorized access and incidents.
• Respond to emergencies and coordinate with district personnel and local authorities.
• Maintain records and communicate safety policies to staff and visitors.
