Job summary

Newark Board of Education is seeking a School Safety Officer to patrol facilities and enforce safety, working under the Executive Director of Safety. The officer must have a commission with weapon authority within the municipality and be able to enforce school and state laws. Flexible shifts and collaboration with the Security team are required.

The role emphasizes safeguarding students and staff, reporting incidents, and responding to emergencies in a large urban school district.

Qualifications

• Commission to carry a weapon and police authority within the municipality.
• Willingness to work flexible shifts as needed.
• Ability to restrain violent or disorderly persons and enforce rules.

Responsibilities

• patrol facilities, buildings, grounds and other areas as directed.
• Enforce school and state laws and assist in apprehension of offenders.
• Maintain safe, secure environment for students and staff.
• Report incidents to supervisor both verbally and in writing.
• Attend roll calls and follow supervisor instructions.
• Respond to school-wide emergencies.
• Collaborate with Security team to ensure safety.
