Job summary

The Camden City School District invites qualified applicants for the School Security Officer position to safeguard students and staff under the direction of the Manager, School Operations or Principal.

Responsibilities include supervising corridors, lunchrooms, and grounds during school hours, maintaining decorum, coordinating with public safety, and recording incidents. Residency in New Jersey is required; SORA license preferred.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of Class 1, Special Officer training preferred
• Health and physical characteristics suitable for law enforcement duties.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Required criminal history background check, physical and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.
• SORA License preferred

Responsibilities

• Serve as the responsible person in school buildings to provide for the safety and welfare of students and school personnel under the direction of the Manager, School Operations or Principal and the Office of Safety & Security.
• Actively assist in supervising general department in corridors, lunchrooms, restrooms and school grounds during the hours in which schools are in session.
• Maintain decorum and order on school grounds and in the vicinity of schools and at school events, as directed by the Manager, School Operations or Principal and the Office of Safety & Security.
• Carry out administrative procedures necessary in maintaining safety and welfare including liaison with public safety officials and school officials.
• Monitor the buildings at all times, including the monitoring of lavatories periodically during the day.
• Comply with the strict regulation against sitting down and socializing.
• Respond promptly to the signal for calling the School Security Officer.
• Assume the authority of special officer of the City of Camden during those hours and/or at such events when actually working and on duty carrying out the responsibilities of an employee of the District.
• Maintain record of incidents.
• Support projects and initiatives in other divisions and departments throughout CCSD on an as-needed basis.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor or Supervisor's designee.
