Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Previous experience in school or urban safety procedures preferred.
• Mature judgment and customer service-oriented demeanor.
• Ability to relate to individuals in conflict situations.
• Ability to work with a variety of people within the school system.
• OPOTC, 120 hours private police certification required.
• 40 hours of CMSD annual training required.
• Must meet departmental physical requirement standards.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the safety of students, staff and visitors, including responses to armed threats.
• Maintain peace and order by intervening during disturbances.
• Patrol buildings and grounds to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and trespassing.
• Monitor visitor access and verify identifications on the premises.
• Utilize visitor management systems and communicate with authorities when needed.
• Respond to emergencies and coordinate with police and emergency responders.
• De-escalate conflicts and support a safe learning environment.
• Assist in drills and medical emergencies and support police/fire services.
• Communicate clearly by phone, radio, or in writing; complete incident reports.
