Job summary

Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) is seeking a Safety and Security professional to protect students, staff, and visitors across district buildings and grounds. The role involves patrolling, access control, emergency response, and coordination with local police and EMS to ensure a safe learning environment.

The position requires OPSOTC or equivalent certification, 120-hour training, and ongoing CMSD training.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• OPOTC, 120 hours, private police certification, required.
• 40 hours of Mandatory CMSD annual training.
• Must meet departmental physical requirement standards.
• Previous experience in related school/urban safety procedures preferred.
• Mature judgment with customer service orientation.
• Ability to relate to individuals in conflict situations.
• Ability to communicate clearly verbally, in writing, by phone, and via two-way radio.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the safety of students, staff, and visitors, including responses to potential armed threats within the building and on school grounds.
• Maintain peace and order by intervening when disturbances occur on school property.
• Patrol buildings and grounds to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and trespassing.
• Monitor and control access to school facilities; verify visitor identification.
• Assist in emergency drills and respond to fires, natural disasters, or medical incidents.
• Assist in medical emergencies and support police/fire services.
