Job summary

Detroit Public Schools Community District is seeking a Security Officer (39 weeks) to maintain a visible presence on campus, greet students and staff, and ensure only authorized individuals are on school grounds to protect students and property.

The role requires monitoring entrances, responding to disruptions, and assisting with investigations in coordination with building leaders and Public Safety to sustain a safe environment. Salary is $18.80 per hour.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Criminal Justice college credits preferred.
• Prior experience in a K-12 setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the safety of students, staff and school property by maintaining a constant presence within buildings during school hours and outside hours as needed.
• Monitor entrances, hallways and exterior grounds; respond to disruptions and promote safe, orderly conduct.
• Assist with maintaining order on school grounds and buildings.
• Verify doors and windows are secure and conduct searches at entry as needed.
• Build positive relationships with students, staff and families to foster a safe school environment.
• Monitor surveillance to identify potential disruptions and intervene when necessary.
• Assist with on-site investigations of misconduct and prepare reports with leaders and police as needed.
• Maintain daily logs and visitor/infractions records.
• Pursue individuals who commit infractions in and around school grounds if needed to maintain safety.
• Use reasonable force when necessary and approved by policy.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
