Job summary

The New York City Department of Transportation is seeking an Inspector for the School Safety group within the RIS to support safety near K-12 schools across NYC. The role involves field investigations, data collection, and assisting with School Slow Zone installations, loading zones, and street redesigns.

Responsibilities include curb inventories, traffic/pedestrian counts, radar surveys, data entry, and using SIMS to generate sign orders.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel is preferred.
• Experience with SIMS, a DOT-specific program for writing sign orders, is a plus.
• Candidate must be willing to work outside in all weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Conduct field investigations and data collection to support School Safety programs.
• Assist with installation of School Slow Zones, school loading zones, and other safety projects.
• Examine street operations, traffic/pedestrian counts, and radar speed surveys; data entry and reporting tasks.
