Job summary

Racine Unified School District seeks a Safety Support Staff member to help promote school safety and positive culture. You will patrol assigned areas, monitor access, and assist with emergencies while supporting academic goals and student wellbeing.

The role requires proactive, independent work and strong communication under pressure, with duties during school hours and events. Training in safety and crisis-intervention is provided.

Qualifications

• Trained in ALiCE, CSTAG, Nonviolent Crisis Intervention, Youth Mental Health First Aid, Trauma Sensitive Schools.
• Ability to work with multiple supervisors (school/district).
• Strong knowledge of students' needs and family concerns.
• Ability to build relationships with students and staff.
• Commitment to district values and professional conduct.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and control access points to the building or specific areas.
• Perform routine patrols to identify and address security risks and document findings.
• Assist with daily safety procedures using on-site safety equipment.
• Communicate emergencies to necessary building staff.
• Collaborate with maintenance, administration, and support staff as situations arise.
• Use de-escalation strategies to intervene when necessary.
• Assist with crowd control during events to ensure safety.
• Document all incidents during designated work time.
• Escort students during hallway transitions as needed.
• Supervise lunch periods when required.
• Provide feedback to safety administration and support planning goals.
• Be flexible and adaptable to changing requirements and procedures.
• Work as a collaborative team member.
• Check hall passes and IDs for authenticity.
• Assist in breaking up fights and controlling confrontations.
• Monitor restrooms and locker rooms.
