Job summary

The Town of Clayton invites applications for a School Resource Officer with the Clayton Police Department in Clayton, NC. The SRO will report to the Police Sergeant or Lieutenant and patrol campus activities while engaging with students, staff, and families.

Position requires a High School Diploma and completion or enrollment in NC Basic Law Enforcement training, with a typical 40‑hour Mon‑Fri schedule and potential call-back duty evenings, weekends, and holidays. Benefits accompany this role.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma and completion of NC Basic Law Enforcement training or enrollment.
• Thorough knowledge of state and federal laws, local ordinances and police policies.

Responsibilities

• Patrol school campus by car, on foot, or by bicycle and interact with students, staff and administrators.
• Respond to calls for assistance and determine appropriate action.
• Investigate campus traffic accidents and issue traffic citations; direct traffic and participate in emergency operations.
• Investigate possible crimes, gather evidence, question witnesses and arrest suspects.
• Advise the public on laws and ordinances; testify in court; execute search warrants as needed.
• Regulate traffic and maintain order at public events and gatherings.
• Coordinate security for school-related events.
• Operate two-way radio and departmental cellular phone for communications; report to HQ.
• Perform other law enforcement duties as assigned by supervisors.
