The mission of DRCS is to teach disciplined learners and to empower them to grow and serve in their community, in college, and beyond. Located in the Kensington neighborhood of Philadelphia, DRCS serves students in grades K-6 (full capacity K-8).
Position Summary
The School Principal oversees school performance and instruction, making structural, budgetary, and personnel decisions that promote DRCS's vision and instructional best practices. As a member of the senior team, the Principal will lead a high-performing community of teachers and administrators and foster a participatory, student-centered, and outcomes-driven culture. The Principal reports to the CEO.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Work to dramatically improve student achievement by leading and developing the academic program.
- Supervise instructional methods, evaluate lesson plans, and coach teachers to ensure effective instructional strategies.
- Implement assessment systems and use data to inform instruction.
- Serve on the School Oversight committee of the board to ensure curricular and instructional alignment for grades K-8.
- Build and manage a team of high-quality faculty and staff, including recruitment, professional development, evaluation, supervision, retention, and dismissal.
- Drive and support the implementation of DRCS's vision and guiding principles to promote a positive, achievement-focused school culture.
- Lead, supervise, and develop a team of educators and personnel committed to academic excellence and personal responsibility.
- Create, manage, and evaluate operational processes aligned with the school's values and goals.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal education standards and regulations.
- Analyze student performance data to identify struggling students, curriculum gaps, and teacher performance issues.
- Conduct evaluations for teachers and staff.
- Develop partnerships with families to support students' academic and behavioral success.
- Oversee the school's after-school program, ensuring it provides enriching opportunities in academics, arts, leadership, and community service.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education and Experience
- Master's Degree or Doctorate in Education Administration or related field.
- 3-5 years of classroom experience, preferably in urban settings.
- At least 2 years of supervisory or leadership experience.
- PA Principal Certification required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to perform duties in an office environment, including using computers, filing, and making phone calls.
- Sitting for extended periods and lifting up to 25 lbs as needed.
