Job summary

Wildwood Programs is seeking a part-time School Physical Therapist to serve students in a 10-month program plus a 6-week summer program. You will bridge students’ physical abilities with their educational environment, partnering with families, educators, and students to enable participation in classroom activities and hallways.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's (B.S.) or MS degree in physical therapy.
• New York State License as a Physical Therapist.
• Two years of related experience and/or training.

Responsibilities

• Review physician's referral, school records, and IEPs.
• Assess strength, motor development, sensory perception, and functional capacity.
• Develop and administer written treatment plans aligned with school-based needs.
• Instruct and motivate students in therapeutic activities; utilize assistive devices as needed.
• Evaluate treatment effects and adjust plans; document progress for medical and IEP records.
• Collaborate with physicians and school staff to integrate therapy with educational goals.
• Supervise PT assistants and ensure compliance with CALM de-escalation procedures.

Other duties may be assigned.Reviews Physician's referral (prescription), nursing chart/school records, and student’s individual education plan(s).Tests and measures student's strength, motor development, sensory perception, functional capacity, and respiratory and circulatory efficiency, and records findings to develop or revise treatment programs as related to school based needs.Plans and prepares a written treatment program based on evaluation of student data and IEP.Administers manual exercises to improve and maintain function.Instructs, motivates, and assists the student to perform various physical activities; and helps in the use of assistant and supportive devices such as crutches, canes, and prostheses.Evaluates effects of treatment and adjusts as neededRecords progress of students in chart / computer for medical and IEP purposes.Instructs the student and family in treatment procedures to be continued at home when appropriate and makes recommendations to family and medical doctors to obtain prosthetic and orthotic devices and recommends modification to Orthotist when problems are detected at school.Confers with Physicians and other practitioners to obtain additional student information, suggest revisions in the treatment program, and integrate physical therapy treatment with other aspects of the students educational program.Supervises and monitors the job performance of any assigned physical therapy assistants.Additional Requirements:A valid New York State Driver’s License and ability to drive and driving record acceptable for agency insurance coverage are required.Must have daily access to their own vehicle to drive our students when the program requires it.Required to complete, pass, and use CALM training, provided by the school, which includes deescalation strategies and approved protective holds and movements for students.
