GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

The individual in this position is responsible for the preparation and service of school meals and sanitation of the meal preparation and service areas. This is a part-time position and works up to 181 days per year, coinciding with the school instructional calendar. The individual in this position will begin employment as a long-term substitute with intent to hire upon completion of a minimum 90 day probationary period.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Functions:
  • Prepares and serves meats, breads, vegetables, and other food in accordance with the menu.
  • Prepares and serves fruits, desserts, salads, soups, and other foods. May be assigned to one specific food preparation area or rotated through the full range of food services.
  • Washes pots, pans, kettles and other cooking utensils.
  • Operates dishwasher, mixer, chopper, slicer, steamers, ovens and other foodservice and mechanical equipment.
  • Cleans work surfaces, food preparation and service areas.
  • Sweeps, mops and performs other clean-up duties as assigned.
  • Assists in estimating and ordering food supplies.
  • Receives and stocks food supplies.
  • Maintains sanitary conditions.
  • May serve as cashier.
Additional Duties:
  • Performs other related work as required.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND TRAINING
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Any amount of experience in preparation of food in large quantities
  • Or an equivalent level of education and experience
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND STANDARDS REQUIRED
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of District policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of general nutrition procedures and equipment.
  • Skill in effective communication.
  • Ability to present information clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other District employees and the general public.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Physical Requirements:

The work is medium work which requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Work is performed while standing and/or walking. Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing. Requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations. Requires lifting, bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:

  • Manual Dexterity: Picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.
  • Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • Pushing or Pulling: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward. Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.
  • Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
  • Handling: Picking, holding, or otherwise working, primarily with the whole hand.
  • Feeling: Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature, or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.
  • Repetitive Motion: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers.
Work Environment:

The worker is in a dynamic environment that requires sensitivity and responsiveness to changing goals, priorities and needs. Requiring exposure to extreme heat and cold, noise, hazards, and atmospheric conditions.
