Job summary

Whitsons Culinary Group in Centereach, NY is seeking an Assistant Food Service Manager to support daily operations across multiple school kitchens and help deliver nutritious meals that support student success.

The role requires 3+ years in food service management, preferably in K-12 settings, a culinary background, ServSafe certification, and strong leadership. Schedule is Monday–Friday, 6am–3pm, with on-site presence and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in nutrition, food service management, or related field.
• Associate’s degree with related field plus 1 year school nutrition experience.
• High School diploma with 5+ years in school nutrition programs.
• 3 years in food service management; 1 year in K-12 programs preferred.
• ServSafe certification or ability to obtain.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day operations across multiple school kitchens.
• Lead a team to prepare nutritious meals for students.
• Assist with scheduling, inventory, food safety, and USDA NSLP/SBP compliance.
• Be the on-site contact in the General Manager’s absence and mentor staff.
• Monitor budgets, manage costs, and ensure audits/inspections readiness.
• Spend 80% of time on-site in schools, ensuring high standards.
