Job summary

Woodlawn Education Center in Des Moines, IA, is seeking a qualified School Nurse for the 2026-27 school year to serve students in an alternative setting. Immediate starting date. The role is full-time (195 or 199 day contract) with a 7.75-hour day schedule.

The nurse will work with Des Moines Public Schools, provide health services, administer medications, and coordinate immunizations and health programs to support student learning and safety.

Qualifications

• Iowa RN license required.
• CPR certification required.
• Valid driver's license.
• Nursing experience in a clinical setting.
• Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred.
• Professional recognition by Iowa Board preferred.
• Experience in pediatric or public health nursing desired.

Responsibilities

• Supports student health and safety, coordinating health services and accommodations.
• Provides health counseling and guidance to students, families, and staff.
• Administers medications and oversees all aspects of medication administration.
• Plans and implements health appraisal and screening programs.
• Ensures compliance with immunization laws and school health requirements.
• Collaborates with district staff and community health providers to meet health needs.
