Job summary

Shiloh House in Colorado is hiring a youth mentor/behavioral coach to support students through challenging situations, guiding self-regulation and pro-social skills in a school setting.

The role emphasizes crisis intervention, teamwork, and collaboration with teachers to improve student engagement and behavior outcomes, with a strong promotion culture and internal growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in health, human services, or education-related field.
• Experience working with youth.
• Must be at least 23 years old.
• Valid Colorado driver’s license or ability to obtain one with clean record.
• Willingness to pass FBI fingerprint and child abuse background checks.
• Successful completion of comprehensive background screening and health evaluation.

Responsibilities

• Mentor youth and provide behavioral coaching to develop self-regulation and pro-social skills.
• Supervise students in school settings and model positive behavior.
• Use crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques to keep environments safe.
• Document behaviors and communicate with the team; assist with behavior plans.
• Support teachers and assume responsibility for student engagement and outcomes.
• Work with youth facing trauma and behavioral issues resulting from trauma/neglect.

What You’ll Do

• Serve as a youth mentor and behavioral coach, guiding students through challenging situations and helping them develop self‑regulation and pro‑social skills.
• Supervise students in the school setting, model appropriate behaviors, and promote positive development.
• Use crisis intervention, de‑escalation techniques, behavior management strategies, clear boundaries, and structured routines to keep the environment safe and supportive.
• Document behaviors, communicate with the team, and help implement behavior plans.
• Support teachers while taking active responsibility for student engagement and behavior outcomes.
• Work with youth who have emotional and behavioral issues resulting from trauma and neglect, and who display verbal and physical aggression.

• Builds trusting relationships with students and the team using trauma‑informed and culturally responsive communication.
• Maintains firm but respectful boundaries.
• Enjoys mentoring youth who struggle in traditional settings and may have behavioral disorders, emotional disturbances, trauma histories, or mental health needs.
• Has hands‑on experience working with youth in education, behavioral health, recreation, mentoring, or similar roles.

Requirements

• Must hold a Bachelor's Degree in a health, human services, education‑related field.
• Must have experience working with youth.
• Must be at least 23 years of age.
• Must have a valid Colorado driver’s license or be able to obtain one with a clean motor vehicle record.
• Must be willing to pass FBI fingerprint & child abuse database background checks.
• Applicants must successfully complete a comprehensive background screening as a condition of employment, including state criminal background checks, fingerprinting, sex offender registry searches, and abuse and neglect clearances. Background checks from any other state lived in within the past five years will be conducted. All direct care applicants are required to complete a health evaluation or physical prior to beginning service to confirm fitness for duty.
• Experience as a teacher assistant, behavioral tech, coach, or youth mentor is a plus, but not required.
