Job summary

Portland Public Schools is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic to provide trades support for school buildings, grounds, and equipment. The role operates with general direction, often independently, on a 1st shift and full-year schedule under the BASE union contract.

You will perform carpentry, plumbing, painting, and related tasks, handle deliveries, move furnishings, and ensure safety practices. On-call on a rotating schedule is required.

Qualifications

• High School or GED diploma required.
• Ability to read and write.
• Knowledge of standard equipment operating systems and the ability to learn new equipment.
• Proficiency at use of tools associated with the trades.

Responsibilities

• Perform carpentry, plumbing, flooring removal/installation, and related maintenance tasks.
• Deliver supplies and transfer furnishings between sites as needed.
• Work independently with minimal supervision to complete assigned tasks.
• Assist with cleaning, painting, and safety-related duties.
• Respond to on-call shifts on a rotating schedule.
