Job summary

Harrison County School District is seeking a Library/Media Specialist at 06 Creekbend Elem/Middle. The role requires a certified and licensed librarian, with completion of required background checks and adherence to district employment policies.

The position reports to the Building Principal/Assistant Principal and/or Director and emphasizes managing the media center, selecting materials, and supporting instructional programs within an enriched library environment.

Qualifications

• Librarian shall be certified and licensed in accordance with state law and the regulations of the Mississippi Department of Education. Such licensure and transcript of credits shall be on file in the office of the Superintendent of Education.
• In accordance with Mississippi Code S37-9-17, all personnel employed by the public school system shall be required to pass a criminal background check and a current child abuse registry check.
• A satisfactory employment records.

Responsibilities

• Operate and supervise the media center to which assigned.
• Evaluate, select and requisition new media center materials.
• Assist teachers in the selection of books and other instructional materials, and to make media center materials available to supplement the instructional program.
• Maintain a comprehensive and efficient system for cataloging all media center materials and to instruct teachers and students on use of the system.
• Arrange for interlibrary loan of materials of interest or use to teachers.
• Work with teachers in planning assignments likely to lead to extended use of media center resources.
• Promote appropriate conduct of students using media center facilities.
• Help students develop habits of independent reference work and to develop skill in the use of reference materials.
