Job summary

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Associate’s degree or two years of college coursework may satisfy education requirements.
• Proficient keyboarding and file maintenance skills.
• Ability to shelve books per district cataloging system.
• Ability to work well with children and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

• Provide instruction and assistance to students or small groups in using library resources and equipment.
• Check books in and out; collect and record fines.
• Prepare materials for classroom or reserve use as requested by teachers.
• Request and schedule materials from outside sources including regional ESC.
• Prepare bulletin boards and displays; assist in instructional materials.
• Read to small groups and listen to students read aloud.
• Maintain library catalog; assist in inventory and weeding.
• Process new books and equipment; shelve returned items; arrange repairs as needed.
• Compile, maintain, and file reports, forms, and routine correspondence.
• Supervise students to maintain order and appropriate behavior.
