Job summary

Webster Central School District seeks a Food Service Cook to prepare, cook and serve hot and cold meals for students and staff at Thomas High School. The role follows established menus and special diets, with potential menu planning, requisitions and inventory duties.

The ideal candidate will have formal training in food service or culinary arts and relevant kitchen experience, with a strong focus on sanitation, safety, and nutrition.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in Food Service Administration or Culinary Arts or closely related field with 6 months of professional cooking experience
• Two years of paid full-time or part-time equivalent experience as described
• Equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits above
• Good knowledge of preparing, cooking and serving food in large quantities
• Good knowledge of kitchen utensils, equipment and safety practices
• Good knowledge of nutrition and balanced diet principles
• Good knowledge of sanitary practices and food safety
• Ability to plan, assign and review the work of others
• Ability to follow menus, diets and recipes
• Ability to prepare and store food with sanitary practices
• Ability to plan and prepare menus
• Ability to work under time constraints
• Able to interact effectively with students, faculty, patients and staff
• Record keeping ability
• Physical condition suitable for the position

Responsibilities

• Supervises employees who assist in preparing and serving meals
• Prepares and cooks entrees
• Supervises cooking of soups, sauces, vegetables, dressings and other foods
• Prepares bread and pastries in absence of baker
• Assists with planning and preparing menus
• Slices and portions meat for cooking and serving
• Manages food requisitions and inventory
• Oversees cleaning and sanitation of kitchen equipment and areas
• Preserves, stores and prepares leftovers
• Maintains records such as cash receipts and inventory
• Operates kitchen equipment safely
• Serves food from steam tables to diners
