Job summary

Henry County Schools in Georgia is seeking an Interpreter to support Deaf and Hard of Hearing students within the Family & Student Support division. The role requires active collaboration with teachers, DHH staff, and families to ensure accurate interpretation of class lectures, discussions, tests, and other activities.

Responsibilities include attending IEP meetings, orienting teachers about the interpreter's role, and providing accessible communication throughout the school day.

Qualifications

• Hold a valid RID certification or pass EIPA at level 3.5+ within five years and hold a bachelor’s degree or higher from a Ga‑PSC accredited institution.
• One year experience as a freelance or school interpreter is preferred.
• Ability to work well with students, parents, staff, and the community.
• Exceptional integrity, confidentiality, excellent character, and strong professional reputation.
• Must abide by the Georgia Professional Standards Code of Ethics for Educators.
• Must be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work.
• Ability to be present at the physical worksite.
• Must perform tasks involving standing, walking, and sitting; lifting up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Be an active member of the students’ educational team and understand goals and daily objectives for students on the caseload.
• Equally facilitate communication and support the full interaction of students.
• Render message faithfully in class lectures, discussions, tests and activities.
• Attend IEP meetings.
• Sign all verbal communication and voice signed communication when appropriate.
• Work with teachers to ensure content is accessible to students.
• Orient teachers about the interpreter’s role with DHH staff.
• Instruct students, staff and parents about the role of an interpreter.
