Job description

Purpose of the Job: The Health Technician supports the school nurse by managing the health office, addressing the health needs of students, and assisting with general health and welfare tasks for students and staff.

Minimum Requirements: (Note: The minimum requirements or prerequisites for a position must be met to satisfy step one of the “qualified” person determined under the Americans with Disabilities Act.)

Education: High School Diploma

Experience: Effective Communication and Social Skills

Licenses / Certificates: Current American Red Cross First Aid Certificate

Essential Duties of the Job: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to carry out each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

  1. Demonstrate reliability in all work situations.
  2. Present a professional appearance personally and in the work area.
  3. Promote positive working relationships with peers, students, and the public.
  4. Be knowledgeable about the job.
  5. Possess adequate office skills, including typing, filing, and management of student health files.
  6. Able to administer basic first aid.
  7. Keep confidential all school health-related matters.
  8. Exercise reasonable judgment in calling the District Nurse(s) for situations exceeding the employee’s training level.
  9. Model the District's Mission and Belief Statements.
  10. Under the direction of the District Nurse(s) and the site administrator(s), implement schedules and routines, effectively communicate with the public and other building personnel, and support school-wide building management and culture plans.
  11. Meet the safety, physical, and emotional needs of students.
  12. Maintain health history information for students.
  13. Maintain frequent communication with parents of students who are ill, injured or on a Health Action Plan.
  14. When deemed necessary by the District Nurse(s), transport ill or injured students.
  15. Record daily absences and health issues/office visits.
  16. Possess skills to utilize basic technology as directed by the District to communicate and function effectively.
  17. Assist with other job-related duties as assigned.

Equipment: Variety of standard office equipment and medical equipment.
