Job summary

Manassas Park City Schools is seeking a School Nurse - Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for a temporary assignment at Manassas Park Middle School from October 1, 2026 to June 11, 2027. The LPN will provide direct nursing services, administer medications, and maintain health records under established nursing protocols.

The role requires Virginia LPN licensure (or eligibility), CPR/AED certification, and experience in school or pediatric health settings.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an approved practical nursing education program.
• Current and unrestricted license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in Virginia, or eligibility to practice through Nurse Licensure Compact privilege.
• Current CPR/AED certification, or ability to obtain certification as required by the division.
• Previous nursing experience in a school, pediatric, community health, or similar health care setting preferred.
• Knowledge of practical nursing principles, first aid, medication administration, infection prevention, and emergency response procedures.
• Ability to recognize and appropriately respond to student illness, injury, and health concerns within the LPN scope of practice.
• Ability to follow physician/provider orders, individualized health plans, emergency action plans, and established nursing protocols.
• Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with students, parents/guardians, staff, health care providers, and community partners.
• Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, families, and staff.
• Ability to maintain accurate records and protect the confidentiality of student health information.

Responsibilities

• Complies with applicable laws, policies, and procedures.
• Provides nursing services within the LPN scope of practice under clinical direction.
• Assesses and responds to student illnesses, injuries, and health concerns with appropriate first aid and care.
• Administers medications and treatments per orders and authorization.
• Recognizes emergencies, initiates procedures, and activates EMS when needed.
• Monitors students with chronic conditions and supports health plans and action plans.
• Maintains accurate, confidential documentation of visits, medications, and services.
• Maintains health records and assists with documentation and immunization records.
• Conducts health screenings and related activities as assigned.
• Communicates with parents/guardians about illnesses, injuries, or treatment.
• Collaborates with school staff regarding student health needs.
• Implements infection prevention practices and responds to disease concerns.
• Maintains clinic and stores medications and supplies securely.
• Supports students to safely access and participate in school activities.
• Maintains privacy and confidentiality of health information.
• Participates in required trainings and meetings as assigned.
