Job summary

Elk River Area School District is seeking a Health Services Assistant at Otsego Elementary School to provide health services to students and staff under the supervision of the Licensed School Nurse, Health Services Manager and Site Principal.

The role includes first aid, medication administration, disease prevention, health records maintenance, screenings, and coordination of health-related projects. Requires a high school diploma, health care experience, and current First Aid/CPR certifications.

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
• Experience in a health care setting.
• Current First Aid certification.
• Current CPR certification including AED.
• Ability to use medical equipment.
• Willingness to follow directions.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Ability to work well with students, parents, staff, administration and other adults and participate as a team member.
• Basic typing skills/data entry.
• Training/experience with computer equipment.
• Organizational skills including filing, bookkeeping and knowledge of office equipment.
• Ability to communicate well verbally and in writing.
• Good telephone skills and ability to interact with the public.
• No allergies to limit work with medical or cleaning chemicals or routine medication.
• Willingness to work overtime including evenings, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Performs first aid, emergency care and illness interventions per district policies.
• Administers medication to students as per physician's orders and parent authorization.
• Assists in prevention and control of communicable diseases and immunization enforcement.
• Maintains current student and staff emergency information and health records.
• Records health incident reports and processes health documents.
• Assists in vision and hearing screening and follow-ups.
• Contributes to district health program goals with staff and community resources.
• Coordinates screening programs, special projects or events.
• Maintains site health supplies and equipment.
• Performs general office duties and records management.
• Handles receptionist duties and information dissemination with confidentiality.
• Acts as resource for students and refers to counselors/public health nurse.
• Other duties as assigned.
