Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with ability to read, comprehend and apply written instructions; and a high degree of verbal skill.
• General and specialized experience requirements depend on level: I = 2 years; II = 3 years.
• Substitutions allowed: nursing/related degree may substitute for part of experience; health-related coursework substitutions accepted.
• Certification requirements: current first aid and current CPR for employment.

Responsibilities

• Administers emergency first aid care to ill or injured students.
• Takes temperatures and monitors students in health room; observes symptoms.
• May administer medications per program guidelines with approvals.
• Contacts parents about student illness or injury.
• May call for ambulance service in emergencies.
• Performs health-related screening tests and aids health surveys.
• Completes health records and refers concerns to the school nurse.
• Maintains a clean health room and adequate supplies.
• Provides health information to staff; coordinates wellness activities.
• Liaises among home, school and community for health services.
• Co-ordinates health-related speakers and aids class curriculum.
