Job summary

Volusia County Schools in Daytona Beach, FL seeks a Maintenance & Operations worker to ensure the safety of students, staff and facilities. Responsibilities include patching driveways, mowing, fence repair, and assisting with portable classrooms.

The role requires on-call availability for emergencies and a valid Florida driver license. The ideal candidate has HS diploma or GED, 3+ years in building trades, and experience with heavy equipment along with compliance with OSHA safety standards.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED preferred
• Minimum of three years experience in building trades
• Experience in heavy equipment and chain saw operation preferred
• Experience in asphalt and concrete patching preferred
• Experience in chain link fence repair preferred
• Knowledge of catch basins and storm water run-off preferred
• Must be able to pass written and demonstration tests
• Must be available after working hours (on-call) as part of emergency and disaster team
• Must be available for scheduled shift work
• Provide personal hand tools as required
• Hold or obtain Temporary Commercial Driver License Class B (with Air Brakes) preferred
• Must have valid Florida Driver's License; if out-of-state, obtain Florida license within 30 days of employment
• Must be able to operate school board vehicles per policy 505

Responsibilities

• Work hours and locations will change as the need arises.
• Assure the safety of children comes first.
• Abide by all security procedures.
• Represent VCSB with a professional service oriented demeanor.
• Work as part of a team and foster cooperation with administrators and the public.
• Patch driveways, parking lots and sidewalks.
• Assist in relocation of portable classrooms and setup/removal.
• Operate and maintain heavy equipment as needed.
• Perform mowing operations and maintain fence lines.
• Assist with preventive maintenance and safety procedures.
• Respond during disasters or emergencies, including evenings and weekends.
• Operate school board vehicles as assigned.
