Job summary

Volusia County Schools in Daytona Beach, FL seeks a Maintenance & Operations worker to ensure the safety of students, staff and facilities. Responsibilities include patching driveways, mowing, fence repair, and assisting with portable classrooms.

Job Description

POSITION GOAL

To provide a high level of expertise in the maintenance and operations of Volusia County Schools to ensure the safety of all students, employees and facilities

Performance Responsibilities

1. Work hours and locations will change as the need arises. Perform all duties according to scheduled hours and locations as assigned.
2. Assure the safety of children comes first.
3. Abide by all security procedures.
4. Represent Volusia County School Board (VCSB) and the Department with a positive and professional service oriented demeanor.
5. Work as part of a team by establishing and maintaining working relationships that foster efficiency and productivity and promote cooperation with administrators, fellow employees, faculty and the public.
6. Patch driveways, parking lots and sidewalks.
7. Assist in the relocation of portable classrooms and assist in the set-up and removal process.
8. Conduct proper trimming and cutting of trees and when necessary, assist the Heavy Equipment Operator.
9. Perform mowing operations as assigned.
10. Repair and maintain chain link fencing.
11. Maintain fence lines in accordance with VCS Maintenance and Operations Standards.
12. Assist with assessment, planning and implementation of preventive maintenance procedures.
13. Check and maintain assigned equipment on a daily basis.
14. Report any equipment misuse and/ or damage, dangerous or hazardous situations related to work orders, equipment or vehicles to supervisor.
15. Responsible for Departmental equipment, tools, and repair parts.
16. Abide by safety rules/ standards when using tools and equipment, which includes wearing required safety equipment and compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) requirements.
17. Effectively communicate verbally and in writing as assigned.
18. Maintain a clean orderly work environment, which includes the service truck and all equipment.
19. Wear provided designated departmental uniform.
20. Attend and/ or conduct cross-training sessions with others in the Division and apply skills/ knowledge obtained.
21. Respond during times of disaster/ emergency, as the need arises, including evenings and weekends.
22. Perform effectively in emergency situations.
23. Operate school board vehicles, when assigned, in accordance with operational procedures and School Board Policy 505.
24. Provide personal tools as required, to perform assigned work.
25. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor, Maintenance and Operations.

• Must be able to operate school board vehicles, when assigned, in accordance with operational procedures and School Board Policy 505
