Position: School Facilities Assistant

Department: Facilities

Reports to: Local Admin / School Facilities Manager / Head of Facilities

Qualifications
  • Experience in a school setting is preferred.
  • Must be able to evaluate problems, prioritize work and determine solutions.
  • Must be able to read, write and understand work-related directions and instructions with sufficient skills to perform effectively.
  • Must be physically able to work from ladders to fully perform job tasks related to maintenance work on a regular basis.
  • Must be able to work unsupervised, be a self-starter, well-organized, and be able to multitask.
  • Must have a satisfactory knowledge of tools, equipment, and materials used in general maintenance work.
  • Must have had satisfactory work experience as a maintenance person.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Pennsylvania motor vehicle license.
  • Must possess and maintain valid Pennsylvania school clearances.
  • The minimum educational requirement is a High school diploma.
Job Overview

The School Facilities Assistant serves as a secondary point of contact for local facility needs.

Responsibilities
  • Assists with the completion of all maintenance requests reported by staff and communicates when things are completed.
  • Assists with parking lot management when needed for in-school and after-school events. This may extend beyond normal work hours.
  • Assists with regular plumbing repairs to faucets, drains, flushers, and plumbing fixtures.
  • Assists with delivering items to classrooms/offices when they're received.
  • Assists with completing regular painting, drywall, and basic carpentry work.
  • Assists with completing regular systems and maintenance upkeep including, but not limited to, HVAC filter changes, battery replacements, light bulb replacements, ceiling tile replacement, etc.
  • Assists with coordination and management of custodial needs schedule and personnel and assists to support the needs as needed. Also manages any other personnel assigned to the facilities department at any point in time.
  • Assists with executing summer work schedule inclusive of repairs, cleaning, and new projects
  • Assists with the organization and setup for breakfast, lunches, events, and school functions including assistance with setup of tables, signage for events, and evening protocols. Needs may extend before or after normal work hours.
  • Assists with coordination of lunch/recess operations (trash, cleaning tables, reorg of tables).
  • Assists with ensuring all building contracted services are running as they should including (but not limited to) HVAC, waste removal, cleaning services, oil delivery, pest control, etc. Escorts contractors around when in the building. Reports any issues to the Facilities Coordinator.
  • Has a proficient understanding of the school’s fire alarm system along with how to deactivate and call out the system when needed
  • Assists with maintaining an inventory of tools, equipment, and supplies and keeps everything organized and orderly.
  • Assists with managing the local keying system and inventory of all keys.
  • Assists with snow and ice removal around the perimeter of the building in conjunction with the contracted snow removal company. This includes coming in early and/or leaving late to assist in making sure sidewalks and arrival/dismissal areas are clear during arrival and dismissal time periods.
  • Assists in developing and executing a summer cleaning/renovation schedule.
  • Performs such other maintenance tasks associated with the school or its equipment as assigned by the CEO.

Terms of Employment: Twelve (12) months

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of state law, administrative code, and the Board’s policy on an employee evaluation.
